About Permits

Municipalities and governments are granted the authority to establish and enforce Building
and Zoning Codes by the Delaware State Legislature.  This authority  is governed by
Delaware Code, Title 22, Chapter 3. More information can be found at the State website

The Town of Bellefonte, through its Charter from the State, must set and enforce both
Building Codes and Zoning Ordinances.

Per the Bellefonte Building and Plumbing, May 16, 1941, Building Permits are required
for all projects that "build, alter, or expand" a building in Bellefonte.  This includes
demolition of a structure.
