Under a court-approved settlement, New Castle County has agreed to reassess properties in the county. Almost without exception, New Castle County government provides assessment services for municipalities in the county – including the Town of Bellefonte. A reassessment has not been conducted in the county since 1983.
For most homeowners, this will mean an increase in the assessed value of your property. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that your taxes will increase because the governments will adjust their “millage” – the rate of taxation to collect the amount of money needed to provide government services. The Town of Bellefonte is committed to adjusting our millage rate to keep the impact as low as possible, but some people may end up paying slightly more, and others less.
